In this season of October, I have sought the Lord for one word that will define this season. When I go before the Lord to speak to Him, I am always reminded by His word which says
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. – Isaiah 55:8-9 (NKJV)
So when He gives me a word in season, the word goes forth and start controlling everything around me. It usually far exceeds my thoughts and my ways.
The Lord has declared this season as the month of LIGHT.
It means any darkness in your life will have to go. It is time to walk in the light of God.
In this day and age that we live in, it is difficult for us to comprehend what the word “light” really meant in the days of the prophets and the Apostles; but they had a very different picture of light than we have today.
If you picture the times in which Jesus Christ walked the earth, there wasn’t any form of electricity invented. When they spoke of light (ohr – in Hebrew), all they could picture was a burning candle in oil or a stick with fire on it. The word “Light” was always associated with something that burns. This is important because this will set the stage for everything else that we will discover in this month of LIGHT.
In the days of Christ, the first attribute of light was that it could be carried around. unlike today where we have lightbulbs fixed on our roofs or wall, in the days of Jesus, it was not the case. This is why the Bible says
“The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.” – Psalm 119:130 (NKJV)
You may read a simple verse such as these and ask why is it important. Well, the answer lies in the life pattern of communities that lived in the days of Jesus Christ. Do you know that these people went to bed as early as 6:00pm? most of us can’t really phantom sleeping this early but they went to bed very early because there was no electricity. it also means that if someone had a leaking roof and didn’t have enough old in his lamp to check where the leak was coming from, he will literally sleep on a wet bed the entire night.
The verse above says the entrance of God’s words brings light and gives understanding to the simple (underline that word simple). In the case of the man sleeping on a bed with a leaking roof, if someone came over with a lamp, he would be delighted to verify his leaking roof and fix it. The leak might be a simple leak but it takes light to be able to see it.
This is what is happening today in the lives of many believers, there are things that are broken which can’t be fixed simply because there is no light (God’s word). When His light shines in your heart, some of the things that you have been struggling with for years (such as sickness, rejection, addiction, discouragement0 will be fixed in seconds.
Another key attribute of light as understood in the days of old was that it can be shared. Because light was carried in the form of a burning candle, you could share it with your neighbours if their light goes out. this is why Jesus said
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12
He shared this light with us when He said
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden – Matthew 5:14 (NIV).”
This is the month of light,
GO AND SHINE!!!!
