Last month, our daughter turned 1 year old. This was an exciting moment for us. However, there was something new that my wife and I noticed about her. The first thing that we noticed was that she seems to want her way. She wanted every toy in the house to be given to her and she would not let go of anything in her hands. I know most babies do this and we, as parents, look for a way of teaching them how to share or be more polite. I spoke to my wife and asked her if she noticed that our daughter did things that no one taught her. For example, she would run away and hide from us when it is time for her to eat. This was strange and quite funny for me until I found this verse that helped me make sense of it all. Here is what the Bible says
Psalms 51:5 “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.”
I never saw the true meaning of this verse until I saw how our little baby girl acted. This verse says that we were conceived in sin. It means we did not have to learn to sin, it was part of our nature. I saw it right under my nose. This was the reason our one-year-old baby would not allow anyone to touch her toys because she wants everything for herself. The selfish nature of the enemy was right there. Sin is not a learned behaviour, it is a nature. This is very important to note because only the word of God can change the nature of a person. If you are not a believer and you are struggling to raise a family, you can try the word of God. If you are a Christian, this is important because it makes a big difference.
Here is what salvation did to us:
Romans 5:19 “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.”
This is great wisdom. The Bible assures us that we should not worry the things of life because many are made righteous through the obedience of Christ. Do you have a damaged relationship? Are you going through difficult times when you do not know what to do and where to turn? You have been made righteous because of the finished work of Jesus Christ. This righteousness will cause you to do the right thing. It is not only a change of mind but it is a change in nature. The old man, who is the devil, will leave your body and the new Man, Christ, will take over your spirit, soul and body.
Father, I have the nature of Christ in me. I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. I know that my family is well because of the obedience of Christ. I am working in your righteousness and wisdom this week in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen
