Do you know the quality of life is not the same as standard of living?

A few days ago, while my wife and I were driving my son to school, we drove past a beautiful convertible car. When we looked closely at the owner of the car, we noted that the owner of that beautiful car looked sad and depressed. My wife and I were surprised why he looked sad? I then recalled this message and I told my wife that

the standard of living and the quality of life are two separate things.

It’s sad that the educational system and the media have created the impression that your quality of life increases with an increase in your standard of living. This is utterly false and I will demonstrate this to you in this ReadnLive of today. This confusion has resulted in many people sinking deep in debts. A few days ago, a credit provider called my wife to come and fetch a credit card that she never applied for. She refused to collect the card because, as a couple, we have learned the difference between our quality of life and our standard of living. I hope this message opens your eyes and gets you out of debts.

If you watch the TV commercials these days, you will find numerous adverts offering you more credits, more assets, more benefits, more luxury and the list goes on. While all these look innocent, what these advertisers are doing is to appeal to your appetite. You will note that your appetite feeds on the flesh and the more you feed an appetite the more it grows until you will get to a point where you will never get satisfied with more.

In Haggai 1:6 the Bible says “You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”

This is the reason why many are depressed and stressed because they have been held captives by their creditors. These people asked for more only to find out that more is not enough. Since more is not enough, their quality of life does not change because of more stuff. You may increase your standard of living with a new car which lands you in deep financial troubles and damages your health thereby damaging your quality of life.

I know we have heard that money doesn’t make people happy but we never believed that. It is not true that money doesn’t make us happy. You know and I know that money does make us happy BUT it is not more money that makes us happy. Do you want to know the type of money that makes us happy? Here is the response, it is MANAGED money that makes us happy. It is not more money that makes us fulfilled, it is our discipline with money that increases our quality of life (I call this financial discipline). This is why most people don’t seem to understand why certain rich people appear to be plagued with many stressed related diseases while the children of the peasant farmer down the road look happy and healthy. The answer is simple, the peasant farmer has a higher quality of life than the rich man although he earns less than the rich man. Your

Your quality of life is directly linked to your peace of mind. Anything that affects your peace of mind affects your quality of life.

The person who wished he bought a Ferrari is more at peace than the one who owes huge sums of debts on his Ferrari.

Some of you need to thank God for giving you a better quality of life than your boss. God knew that if you got that promotion last year, you would quickly burnout at your office which would have made you too sick to worship Him. You may not be living in the best house or the best neighbourhood but the joy of the Lord is in you and in your home which the Billionaires of this age can’t buy.

No amount of profit can buy the peace of God. No amount of turnover can buy the blessings of Ebrahim working in your life.

Next time you see those who appear to have their bread buttered on both sides, don’t be too quick to envy their lifestyle, they may be going through nightmares with buttered bread in their hands.
