Do you want to be promoted at work?

I have received so many letters from people around the world who are seeking God’s intervention in their jobs. A young man once wrote to me and complained how his boss didn’t like him. He repeatedly was not put forward for promotion when the time for promotion came. I don’t know about your current situation. Maybe you are facing a similar predicament. Let me help you get ahead of the rest.

Jesus taught a lesson about this to the early Church. Here is what He said.

Matthew 5:41 “If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles.

Let me break down this verse into a layman’s terms. It says that if your boss asks you to work for 8 hours, work an extra hour. Then Jesus goes ahead to say that let your light so shine before men that they may see your good work glory your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Or, if we put it in the context of your job, it will read like this:

Let your light so shine in your company that they may see your good works and promote you.

Jesus knew that you would need promotion in your career, this was why He narrated this parable thousands of years ago.

In the days of Jesus, Isreal was a slave nation. Most of us in this generation can’t even phantom a slave nation. Let me help you understand what this is. In a slave nation, everyone was a slave. They were born slaves, worked as slaves for the Roman empire and died as slaves. A Roman soldier had the right to command any Jew to carry his luggage for a mile. This means when Jews (who were slaves) saw Roman soldiers, they would run and hide far away for fear of being asked to carry something on their heads for a mile. There was no employee benefits, no labour courts and you couldn’t complain to anyone if you were maltreated. If a slave was sick, the Romans left him/her to die because they won’t waste good medicine for a dying slave. These are the things that were happening in the days in which Jesus spoke these words. If you think it is easy to go an extra mile in your air conditioned office, think of those who had to do this as slaves in their country.

If you think that it is so difficult to go an extra mile in your air conditioned office, think about those who had to do this as slaves in their country. This is some motivation right here.

I pray that you receive the grace to be promoted in this season of fruitfulness.
