Don’t live and empty life

I have instituted, as part of my daily routine, to have some quiet time at the end of my day to reflect and meditate with my inner man before I go to bed. Sometimes it just means I rest back to myself and reflect on the events of the day, what I did well and what I did not do well. I also go through all my meetings that I had in the course of the day to establish if I made the right decisions, gave the correct advise and acted in a manner that conformed to the image of Christ. I realised that you can be so busy in trying to accomplish the tasks o the day that you miss God. I learned this from reading a very powerful passage of scripture. Here is what the Bible says…

Ephesians 3:14-19

For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

I know many will argue that this verse is about power, the miracle-working power of God. The “dunamis” and the might of God. But is it really? let us examine this passage again closely.

The last part of this passage says that we may be filled with all the fullness of God. Wow!!! We can see, from this last part that it is about filling the emptiness that is within us and robbing us of our joy. This passage is actually about the love of God – “agape“. It says the love of God (agape) surpasses all understanding. This means I cannot even explain this enough to you. It will take the love of God to reveal Himself to you.

01-empty-life-2Sometimes in our lives, we feel empty because there is nothing happening. A young colleague came over to me and complained that she felt she was stagnating in her career and not growing. This passage says that God wants your life to be full and not for it to be shallow and empty. Being full of life will help you know the love of God. This is a powerful revelation right here; the life of God (zoe) ushers in the love of God (agape).

You were not designed to live an empty life, the Holy Spirit wants to strengthen you, to root you and establish you in Christ so that you can understand the love of God.

This passage is dealing with the things of the spirit. Sometimes we focus so much on the external things in life such as ministry, marriage, family, giving, adversaries that we neglect the spirit man and we forget how much we have in Christ Jesus. We need to get to the point where we pray for the inner man and remove our focus on the physical things around us.

Most people don’t understand how good God really is. We don’t seem to really know how good our God is. We seem to know about God’s love but without a deep understanding of the love of God. The Apostle Paul prayed for this because he knew that there was nothing that he could do physically to effectively bring about a change in the hearts of men and women.

What should we do as believers if we are faced with challenges? Has your life become dry? Sometimes we just think that working hard will help make things better or pay our bills. We try to look for money or gain higher qualifications to make ends meet. But Paul says because of all these difficulties, he bows down his knees in prayer. It is uncommon to find people bowing down their knees these days. But there will come a time when you have to submit your body to your spirit by bowing your knees. I can’t wait to get to my knees at the prayer mountain and submit my body to listen to my spirit and to the voice of God.

Pray this aloud:

Father, I receive your word and I thank you for agape love that you have bestowed upon me. I know that your love rescued me from the pit of Hell and placed me to sit with kings and queens. I bow down my knees and submit all my cares and burdens to you today. Open my spritual ears to understand you more this month in Jesus name. Amen.
