Did Jesus really misquote the Bible?

Our theme verse this 2017 is taken from Isaiah chapter 61 as read by Jesus. The year of Total Freedom was given to me directly by the Holy Spirit and it came as I meditated in the word of God. I was lead to this passage as the Lord revealed to me the things that will happen this year to those who are part of this family.

The year 2017 is going to be fascinating. I know that many have prophesied several other things to happen in 2017 but the Lord has shown us every year that His prophecy that He has given to us does not fail. The most powerful part of the 2017 prophecy is that it appears twice in the Bible and Jesus was interested in it. The Bible says Jesus specifically opened up the Bible to Isaiah 61 and read from there. However, if we listen carefully to what Jesus read, we will realise that He did not exactly read that passage of scripture verbatim. Jesus removed certain words and added His own word to the passage. Let me illustrate this below.

Here is what Isaiah 61:1-2 says:

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,...”

Below is what Jesus actually read when He opened the book to this passage of scripture. This is found in Luke 4:18-19.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Many people have asked inquired why Jesus did not exactly read what was in front of Him since He had the book opened up. Others are of the impression that Jesus probably was reciting the Bible and not actually reading the words while other believe that it had to do with the translations. These are all not true. jesus-teachingThe Holy Spirit gave me the answer and I will reveal to you this morning. Jesus says everything that He says, He hears from His Father (the Holy Spirit). This means that Jesus and the Holy Spirit could not have erred in reading this scripture.

We note from the two scriptural text that Jesus added the phrase “and recovery of sight to the blind” which was not part of the Prophet’s Isaiah’s original teaching. Why was this phrase added and what does this mean? The answer is simple, this had to do with faith. Jesus was telling these people (as us) that the Spirit of God will open their spiritual eyes so that they can start seeing beyond what their physical eyes could see.  The Prophet Isaiah did not include this passage because the Holy Spirit had not yet come. Did the Prophet Isaiah omit this section? No! He did not omit it but could not say those words because the time for it had not yet come.

When Jesus rose up to read this passage, He completed this passage and it all makes sense. In the days of old, the eyes of all men and women could not be opened. God only spoke directly to His Prophets and He only opened the eyes of His Prophets. There is only one account in the Bible where the spiritual eyes of a servant(Gehazi) were opened. This was done by a special request from the Prophet Elisha.

2 King 6:15-17  – Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the servant’s eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Here is the mystery about this whole passage of scripture, we are better than Elisha and Gehazi because we have the Holy Spirit living inside of us. Today we can see the things of the spirit using our spiritual insight and revelation. As I am typing this ReadnLive, I can feel the presence of God moving my fingers from one key to another and telling me (in my spirit) what I need to write and how I need to write it.

Jesus came to complete Isaiah 61. Jesus did not misquote the Bible as many suggest, He came to fulfil the scriptures.

Pray this prayer aloud: Father, I thank you for this revelation. Now I know that you came to fulfil and complete Isaiah 61. My spiritual eyes are opened and I am alert to the liberty that You have called me to live. I refuse to be limited by people, time, space or event. I am taking over the world by Faith in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

If you have prayed this prayer write to us and we will pray for you and send you materials that will bless you.
