The festive season is over, the holidays are now behind us and it is time to send our kids and loved ones back to school. These can be challenging times for most parents, as well as children (pupil or students). You may be wondering if all of these have any spiritual significance? The answer is yeah they do. Training up a child is a spiritual command as well. Here is what the Bible says:
Proverbs 22:6 – Train up a child in the way he/she should go, and when he/she is old he will not depart from it.
The text above is very fascinating. The Bible did not say “train up an adult”. Have you ever wondered why the Bible never talked about training up old men and women? This is because only the Holy Spirit can train adults. You can preach to an adult and help an adult, but there is only one person that can change the heart of an adult, and He is the Holy Spirit. But this is not so with children. Your words and actions are transforming the hearts of your kids and creating new patterns in their minds. We have been given the divine authority to change the hearts of children through training. You can see from this scripture passage above that God has given parents the power to raise and train children.
You may not see the fruits today, but in due season, you will be reaping the fruits of your labour.
Now, let us take this one step further, let us examine the life of Jesus. Did you now that Jesus went to school? Did you know that He studied just like we do but He went to a different kind of school? Even the people in the day of old marvelled at the wisdom of Jesus. Let me show one scripture
John 7:14-16 …About halfway through the feast, Jesus went up to the temple courts and began to teach. The Jews were amazed and asked,“How did this man attain such learning without having studied?” “My teaching is not My own,” Jesus replied. “It comes from Him who sent Me.…
Jesus attended a feast at Judea and the Rabbis (or teachers of the law) sought Him because they had heard so much about Him. They were amazed at His teachings and asked how He knew all these things. They knew He was from Nazareth which was a small city that was crushed by the Roman empire and left in ruins. Nazareth had no major attraction, in fact, one of the disciples of Jesus even questioned if anything good could come from Nazareth because if was crushed to the ground.
John 1:43-46 – The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.” Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
Nazareth may not have had the best universities; It may not have had the best colleges, but it had the Holy Spirit in it, which made Jesus to excel above all the other teachers.
Your child may be going to a tiny school that is not known. You may be in a village somewhere where nobody knows your name but I have a word for you today; because you have the Spirit of God living inside of you, you shall be known throughout the world. Just like Jesus, your fame shall spread to the ends of the world.
Don’t say “oh! other children are in good schools but mine are not in a good school”. No, no, no, a thousand times no! Don’t you know who you are? Don’t you know what you carry, the Bible says you are the light of the world.
Matthew 5:14-16 – “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
No person can hide light because it shows itself wherever it is put. Light does not make so much noise, it just shines and everyone knows that it is here. As the light of the world, your children shall shine while others keep making noise and trying to destroy you. Your family shall not be hidden anymore. Wow! great liberation to the human spirit.
Pray this prayer aloud: Father, I know that I am the light of the world. I will shine your light eve brighter in this academic year. The Light of God is in me and I cannot be obscured. I am not a shadow but the light of my school. Every hidden knowledge is revealed to me because the light that is in me causes me to see everything. I glow today in the mighty name of Jesus.
If you have prayed this prayer write to us and we will pray for you and send you materials that will bless you.
