Have your eyes been deceiving you all along?

Do you know that your optical eyes might just be the thing that has been holding you back all along? As beautiful and important as your eyes may be, they can be easily deceived. An illusionist or a magician is someone who has mastered the trick of manipulating and deceiving the eyes as well as the mind to believe something that does not exist.

A magician in a black suit holding a top hat with a rabbit in itWe were invited to attend a birthday event of one of my son’s classmate. One of the highlights of the event was when an illusionist performed several tricks. He brought out a rabbit out of a hat, he made a straight stick fold and made a coin disappeared. The kids were fascinated and were caught in awe. As adults, we saw the tricks behind these mind games but the kids could not understand how these were done. One of the main skills of the magician was his ability to distract the kids and turn their attention away from where the trick was being done.

As I reflect on this, I am lead to a passage of scripture where Satan played mind games to Jesus. He tried to trick Jesus into believing that the world belonged to him. Here is what the Bible says:

Matthew 4:8-11  Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; and he said to Him, “All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.’” Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him.

The devil took Satan to the mountain top and showed Him the kingdoms of this world and their glory and asked Jesus to worship him. This was a false image and was nothing more than an illusion. The devil has no glory and the kingdoms that were showed to Jesus were not real kingdoms but illusions. Jesus is the King of kings over all kingdoms. He could not identify with any of the kingdoms that Satan showed Him.

Here is how Jesus rebuffed Satan, he said “Go, Satan! for it is written, ‘you shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only‘”. In saying this, He was telling Satan that there is only one Kingdom that we must worship and that is the Kingdom of God. The second thing Jesus pointed out to Satan was that those kingdoms were false kingdoms because Satan claimed to be the king over these kingdoms. You will note that as soon as Jesus chased Satan away, angels came down from heaven to preach to Him. They came to enforce the scriptures. Don’t let your eyes deceive you, look to the word of God for it has the answers for your life. Remember that angels will only come and preach to you if you tell Satan to “get out”. If you are Xhosa or Zulu, you can tell Satan today to “hamba”.

This is why the Bible says:

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith is now and it is the evidence of things not seen. Note that if something is not seen does not mean that that thing does not exist. You may not be able to see the wind but the wind exists, this is what faith is. Don’t let your eyes deceive you and destroy your life. You may be in the hospital and the Doctors might have said there is no cure for this disease, but God’s word says you shall live and not die. Instead of reading the medical report and weeping all night, rather declare the faith in God and say “I may not be able to see the healing, but by faith, I know that I am healed”.

I don’t know about your current situation, maybe you have been applying for a job and you are always turned down and you have given up. This is your season to dust yourself, rise up and speak faith. Start submitting your applications again and dress up for the position that you want to work for. If you are looking for the job of an accountant, dress up as an accountant, go outside for all to see and declare that “I am accountant right now”.

You might not know where the school fees will come from for your kids. Don’t cower and lament, this is just an illusion by the enemy. The Bible says that God will provide all your needs.

Philippians 4:19  And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

God will provide, don’t look at your bank account, look to God and seek Him daily. He will connect you with someone. God will open up a new bursary program for your child to be educated free of charge.

Look unto Jesus (not man) for He is the author and has absolute control of every event happening in and around you.
